RIE Homestay

Living with a Canadian family is an excellent and enjoyable way to experience Canadian culture, build proficiency in English and integrate into the local community.

RIE Homestay is managed and organized by the RIE homestay coordinator who is able to support students and host families throughout the homestay experience.

RIE Homestay includes

  • Placement with a friendly, local family within the city of Richmond

  • An English speaking environment

  • A private, furnished room with a bed, desk, window and closet

  • 3 healthy meals per day plus snacks

  • Assistance from the RIE homestay coordinator whenever needed

  • No more than 2 long-term students in a home at a time

All homestay families are accessible to Richmond schools by city bus, bike or by walking.  Host families are carefully selected and prepared to ensure the best possible match for everyone involved. Each family is required to do an extensive criminal record check and are visited by the homestay coordinator to ensure the home is an appropriate fit for students.

Homestay Placement Process

Before being placed in a home, students will be sent a profile of the family that includes information on the number of children and/or pets in the home, family interests and pictures.

Students are encouraged to speak with their homestay family before leaving their home country to get to know each other.
