Connections Program

Connections is an optional after-school support program for international students at Richmond public secondary schools.  The program is designed to improve English skills required for social studies and science and to encourage important social connections to other students and the community.

Grades: 8 – 11

Entry dates: September or February

Non-credit: optional after school and Saturday program

The Connections Program includes:

  • Academic Tutoring – Skills development for all ELL levels with a focus on social studies, science and Canadian culture.
  • A Peer Session – Covers strategies for academic success from successful international students.
  • Field Trips and Social Activities – Games and team projects to develop English in a fun, interactive environment. Field trips are also organized to enrich the experience by encouraging students to learn more about their community. 
  • Homework Help – Teacher assistance with homework when needed.

Connections Schedule: Classes are held from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays.  On Saturdays, students participate in activities for a half or full day.

  • Richmond Olympic Oval
  • Visit to the Vancouver Olympic Village
  • Science World
  • Granville Island
  • Vancouver Aquarium
  • Grouse Mountain
  • Flyover Canada and Canada Place
  • Social activities such as laser tag, bowling and dancing classes

Application Process

Student must be registered in a Richmond secondary school from grade 8 to 11. To sign up, please download our registration form.

Program Cost

CAD$1600.00 per semester (includes all field trips)
