Connections Program

Connections is an optional program offering after-school support for international students at Richmond public secondary schools. This program is designed to improve English skills required for the BC curriculum by focusing on communication, critical thinking, as well as personal and social responsibility. Students in the program develop the intellectual, personal and social skills needed to be successful throughout their education in Canada through numerous field trips and focused project work.
Program Details

Grades: 8 – 11

Entry dates: September and February

Non-credit: optional after school and Saturday program

  • Improve English ability– Skills development for all ELL levels with focus on project-based learning in a fun and interactive environment.
  • Develop social connections– Through activities and projects, students can connect with each other and make lifelong friends. 
  • Enhance learning through field trips – Field trips are organized to encourage social connections to other students and the community while deepening understanding of school subjects.

  • Understand Canadian teaching styles and expectations– Students have the opportunity to become comfortable with group work, classroom discussion, and acquire knowledge of project and presentation styles for Social Studies and Science classroom activities.

The academic component will be delivered by qualified BC teachers. 

Schedule

Classes are held from 4:00 to 6:00pm twice a week at Cambie Secondary School. On Saturdays, students engage in outdoor field trips around Metro Vancouver.

  • Social activities such as laser tag, bowling and dance classes

  • To sign up, please complete an application form through True North. Student must be registered in a Richmond secondary school from grade 8 to 11.
